You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.
My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
My mom put together a scrapbook when she was a teenager. It includes photos, report cards, ephemera from dances, school and church events, and fun with friends. Unfortunately, it hasn't survived well and a few years ago it fell apart when being moved. I decided it was time to go through it.
So many fun things are included. Some of the photos I have never seen before and some are labeled as having been in the scrapbook at one time but are no longer there. One missing photo was labeled "Daddy, Gil, and me". A photo I have never seen of my mother, her father who died in WWII, and her little brother. Oh, to find that photo somewhere!
There are photos of her cousins-some of whom are no longer with us- that I will share with their families. It has been so fun to go through her memories. Those things that she cared enough to keep and place in her scrapbook. I am going to try to put it back together the best I can and then scan each page.
I also plan to share the scans with mom and ask her to tell me about each item.
What fun that will be!
Share your discovery!
