Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

My books arrived! At SLIG a few weeks ago we were able to visit a virtual bookstore. The owners of Books & Things were available during breaks to talk to us about their inventory and help find books that met our research needs. If you haven't taken a look at their bookstore online, I highly recommend it!

I ordered some that will help with my SC research and recommended books from the instructors in my course.

Do you love getting new books? I sure do!

What's your Happy Dance Moment?

Please share and let's celebrate together!

GenFriends Genealogy Chat Show-Learning from FYR Season 8 Episodes 1-3

Cheri and the panel, Melissa Barker,  Laura Hedgecock,  Shelley Murphy, and Mary Kircher Roddy get together to discuss the first three episodes of Finding Your Roots Season 8.

Genealogy TV is fun to watch, but if we pay close attention to the stories and details of how ancestors were discovered, we can apply the methods to our own research.

Watch to see what the ladies of GenFriends thought about each episode and how you can apply what they observed and learned from the shows.

Have you been watching Season 8?

What have you learned that may help you with your research?

We'd love to hear from you!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Attending the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy course "Operation Jumpstart: Beyond the Basics of Military Research" with course coordinator Michael Strauss, AG was a whole week of happy dance moments! My goal in taking the course was to up my knowledge of researching in military records and gt some clues on finding information about the Soldiers in my family tree.  I learned so much about different types of records, how laws affect what may be available, how to work through Soldiers with the same name and how to find bounty land records. Besides Michael Strauss who is an expert on military records,, I also had the opportunity to learn from:

Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, CGL

Lori Berdak Miller

Judy G Russell, JD, CG, CGL

Richard G. Sayre, CG, CL, FUGA

Gerald H. "Jerry" Smith. CG

All excellent instructors who gave me so many ideas on where and how to find information needed for many of my ancestors.

I highly recommend this course!

Have you had a chance to take this or another SLIG course?
