Celebration Sunday~Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
Once a week some of my genealogy friends and I gather together to film GenFriends.
A Genealogy Chat show I post on my YouTube channel.
This week was a very special episode with the teams from Relative Race Season 6 and Team Black of Season 4, Those who watch the show know how close the teams become.
Season 6 teams have a bond, unlike the previous ones. Their love for one another shines through every time they get together.
So, I was thrilled when Ray from Team Red reached out to me and asked if the teams could come back on the show. It was so much fun the first time how could we refuse?
Also invited were Joe and Jerica Henline, Team Black, from Season 4.
They had never met! What fun to watch them being embraced, loved and supported by the Season 6 teams. Indeed, a family.  Those of us on the panel felt like we belonged.
And? In this crazy time, we all need as much love, support, and family as possible. Thanks to the teams from Relative Race for joining us on GenFriends.
A memorable Happy Dance indeed!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
An 88-year-old cousin of one of my missing Soldier cases returned my phone call.
He told me he knew of others in the family who had not responded to my request for them to contact me and agreed to reach out to them and have them call.
Then he said if you can find me, can you help me with my genealogy research? LOL!
Why, yes sir, I can!
What a bright spot in a crazy week!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
It's been a rough week. A week of worry and fear of the unknown.
Stockpiling of food and other necessities causing store shelves to empty.
A new phrase "Social Distancing" has been added to our vocabulary.
The spreading of COVID-19 brought closures and cancelations disrupting lives.
Speaking engagements and conferences are canceled or postponed.
Research facilities are shutting down.
And? As usual, the genealogy community is coming to each other's aid.
Some are offering help with understanding and using platforms to live stream or record presentations others are supplying support via social media as we all adjust to a new normal. Instead of getting angry about decisions to push plans for future conferences back, messages of understanding are being sent.

My Happy Dance Moment during this difficult week?
Knowing that I am part of a community who cares, and will continue to help one another no matter what the future holds.
A very happy dance indeed!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Did you attend RootsTech last month in Salt Lake City?
I returned home on Monday and am still doing a happy dance as I celebrate the many wonderful experiences I had attending this conference.

My biggest Happy Dance? The response to the presentation I gave with my friend Sharon Gillins.

The title of our class was "Discovering the Records of the Enslaved".
We created this after so many asked for time to talk about the class I taught last year at RootsTech called "Discovering Slave Owners in Your Family Tree".   My purpose was to show descendants of Slaveholders how and where to share the names of the enslaved in the records they find and how to work with their descendants to connect families. There were so many comments and questions that it was clear we needed to have a panel discussion.
We did and it was so worthwhile. A dialogue began that could have lasted for hours as descendants of both groups discussed how to work together.
We needed more time, we will move forward and have this discussion again next year.
Hopefully longer and with goals and plans to join a community in a common goal.
To reunite families!
