This Week On My Family History Calendar

April 28~
Arthur Wellington Baker (1857-1940), my paternal great great grandfather, was born on this day 165 years ago. He was born in Sumter County, South Carolina, and was the son of Alpheus J. Baker (1824-1917) and Mary Ellen (Jones) Baker (1826-1865).

My maternal great-grandmother, Beulah Mae (Price) Roberts (1897-1980) would have been celebrating her 125th birthday on this day. Beulah was born in Bath, Aiken, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Bertrand Campbell Price (1876-after 1922) and Bessie Mae (Eargle) Price (1878-1943).

April 28~
Gilbert Ernest Roberts, Jr. (1944-1999), my maternal uncle died 23 years ago on this day. He is buried in Quaker Cemetery in Camden, Kershaw, South Carolina.

Interesting how events coincide with one another. Not only did these three happen on one day, but Gil Roberts died on his grandmother Beulah Mae (Price) Robert's birthday.

April 30~
This day is the 273rd birthday of my 5th great grandfather, John Dargan (1749-1817). He was most likely born in Sumter District, South Carolina. John's parents were John Dargan (1726-1766) and Catherine Ann (Singleton) Dargan (1729-abt. 1808).

Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance! Mom's Scrapbook

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

The missing photo

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

My mom put together a scrapbook when she was a teenager.  It includes photos, report cards, ephemera from dances,  school and church events, and fun with friends.  Unfortunately, it hasn't survived well and a few years ago it fell apart when being moved.   I decided it was time to go through it.

So many fun things are included. Some of the photos I have never seen before and some are labeled as having been in the scrapbook at one time but are no longer there.    One missing photo was labeled  "Daddy, Gil, and me".  A photo I have never seen of my mother, her father who died in WWII, and her little brother. Oh, to find that photo somewhere!

There are photos of her cousins-some of whom are no longer with us- that I will share with their families.  It has been so fun to go through her memories. Those things that she cared enough to keep and place in her scrapbook.  I am going to try to put it back together the best I can and then scan each page.

I also plan to share the scans with mom and ask her to tell me about each item.

What fun that will be!

What's your Happy Dance Moment?
Please share and let's celebrate together!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

The release of the 1950 Census has most of the genealogy community doing the happy dance! I found d my parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and many of my parent's aunts and uncles.  There were not many surprises but it was wonderful to see the names of so many of my loved ones who are no longer with us.  There was one HUGE piece of information though. Seems my great grandfather Jubal Ransome Early had another wife after he and my great grandmother were divorced. He is listed in the census as the son-in-law of the Broom family with their daughter Catherine as his wife.

Mind blown! This is the third time I have found a wife for Jubal that the family did not know about!

Unlike the previous marriages I have discovered, this one most likely did not produce any children due to their ages.

Another person to add to my family tree!

What did you discover in the 1950 Census?

What's your Happy Dance Moment?
Please share and let's celebrate together!
