GenFriends Genealogy Chat Show-Relative Race Season 10, Day 5: Siblings!

The panel Bernice Bennett, Melissa Barker,  Dan Earl, and I join together to discuss Day 5 of Relative Race. It's hard to believe we are halfway through Season 10!

And this episode is filled with the discovery of siblings.

We also continue to be amazed at the bond that is being formed by the teams who were strangers at the beginning of the race. Shawn's injury before the challenge and the support from Curtis is heartwarming.

Watch as we talk about each team and their journey on Day 5.

GenFriends Genealogy Chat Show-Relative Race Season 10, Day 4: Healing Wounds

The panel, Dan Earl, Laura Hedgcock,  Shelley Murphy, and I  get together to share their thoughts about the emotional family discoveries on Relative Race Season 10, Day 4.  Each team discovered new relatives that helped them answer long-held questions about who they are and why they do the things they do.

Wasn't it fun to see Joe and Jerica from Season 4?

AND? The chicken is back!!

Watch as we laugh at the fun during the challenge, admire the photos taken for the photo challenge, and marvel at the bonding between strangers who understand each other's journey.

What were your favorite moments from Day 4?

We'd love to hear from you!

Thanks for watching!

Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance! Teaching at SLIG Fall Virtual

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone that you found the document, contacted a cousin with the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This weekly series enables everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Being one of the instructors for D. Joshua Taylor's SLIG  Fall Virtual course: "Advanced Techniques for Mastering Online Searches," is a happy dance moment all by itself, but I got an extra one this week after teaching the second of the Hands-On classes.  The hands-on sessions give tips and tricks for searching the big four- FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, and Findmypast, and then give the students time to go and search using what they have learned. They then come back and report what they found.  During their search time, after discussing MyHeritage and suggesting using their newspaper collection, a huge happy dance moment occurred for one participant.  She decided to try the newspaper collection for information on an ancestor and found an obituary giving her the needed facts! Her ancestor's obituary was included in a Montreal newspaper that was part of a collection she didn't know about on MyHeritage! You never know where you will find the one source that leads you to your ancestor!

What's your Happy Dance Moment?
Please share, and let's celebrate together!

GenFriends Genealogy Chat Show: Relative Race Season 10 Day 3-Happy Birthday, Shawn!

The panel Dan Earl, Laura Hedgecock, Shelley Murphy, Mary Kircher Roddy, and I share our thoughts about Relative Race Season 10 Day 3.

So many emotions in this episode! Laughter, tears, frustration, and anger.

How about the "Smell and Tell" challenge making a return? So much fun and good smelling by each team-even Team Black, who has no sense of smell, did well! The addition of the photographs has created a new dynamic that shows the power of a photo!

Watch as we discuss our feelings about the happenings on Day 3 and wish Shawn from Team Blue a Happy Birthday!

What are your thoughts about Team Black's discovery of "friends" who are really family?

Do you have a favorite part of Day 3?

We'd love to hear from you!
