Writer's Blog Hop Tour

So glad to be joining the Writer's Blog Hop! Thanks to Shannon Bennett for inviting me to do so!

The following questions have been given for those participating to answer:

1. What am I writing on or working on?
My main writing outlet right now is my Genealogy Blog. I have been writing my research discoveries and family stories for about 2 1/2 years. My goal is to get something written and posted weekly. Recording my progress as I research and sharing the stories that I come across helps me to see where I have been and where I want to go. Hopefully it will help others with their research and keep the stories of my family alive.
Recently, I have been able to be a guest blogger for a few different types of Genealogy blogging groups and sites. Those have helped me to stretch and grow in my writing and helped me set goals for future writing projects.

2.How does my work differ from others of it's genre?
There are many Genealogy Blogs out there and I hope that I can stand out by being honest and helpful in the things I write. Truly a family blog, my goal is to help others by learning from experiences that I have on my journey to discover my people.
3.Why do I write what I do?
I write what I do solely for the love of  family history. Hooked on Genealogy for many years, I have discovered that blogging is a fantastic way to document and share with the next generation.
Hopefully, something that I write will help someone else work through a problem in their research process as well as help ignite a spark in someone to begin searching for their family history. Most importantly, I write in hopes that my family will one day know where to find and appreciate the stories of their ancestors.

4.How does my writing process work?
My blog posts come about from different sources. They could result from experiences that I have had in researching, classes taken or even conversations with family members. Something will  click and I will think "That would be great to blog about!".  That's when I open up my computer and start writing. Sometimes I am lucky and the words seem to just flow. Other times, it takes a bit of work to get it just right. I feel I still have lots to learn about writing and hope that I will improve as time goes on.

So, there you have my answers to the Writer's Blog Hop questions. Want to learn more about writing and see how others answered?
Those below will be posting their submissions to the tour on their blogs soon. Hope on over and visit!

Wendy Mathias
Jollett Ect. Genealogy Blog

As a retired teacher and empty-nester, I have time to indulge in my favorite pastime:  family research.  My mother got me started on genealogy in the pre-Internet days when she wanted to join the DAR.  She dragged me in to help her with the research.  I have since carried on her work although DAR membership has still managed to elude us.  In 1998 I started a Jollett website on Geocities with the intention of collecting primary sources related to the Jolletts of Virginia.  Connecting with other researchers showed me the value of studying collateral lines, and so the title of my blog, “Jollett Etc” reflects how my research has expanded to include such surnames as Shiflett, Armentrout, Eppard, Rucker, Davis, Walsh, and Slade.  Because of my ancestors’ roots in the mountains of Virginia, I joined the Greene County (Virginia) Historical Society even though I live 250 miles away from there.  I have submitted articles to their magazine and most recently have completed a couple indexing projects:  a family scrapbook and an 1855 accounts book from a general store.  Besides GCHS, I attempt to be “social” with Twitter and several genealogy groups on Facebook.

  3. My heavens you are organized! I cannot keep track of my own stuff let alone invite others into the fray...I'd probably loose a few bloggers in a file box or pile of papers! I do enjoy ducking by to read about others, especially their writing process/ inspirations. Always fascinating to see how others work!
