You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.
Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.
Share by scrolling down and adding your story to the comments section or you may also put a link to a blog post telling about what had you dancing this week.
My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
Have you tried RelativeFinder from FamilySearch?
There are many different categories to see if you have connections.
Because of the release of Hamilton, I clicked on "Signers of the Constitution"
to see if there was a link to Alexander Hamilton.
And? There was! We are 7th Cousins 7 times removed on my dad's side.
Now, I realize this is based on the FamilySearch tree and there may be errors.
Many errors! But, it's fun to play with and then do your own research to see if the connection can be correctly documented!
Have you tried this fun tool? Are you related to Alexandar Hamilton?

I tried it. 14th Cousins once removed!
ReplyDeleteYay!! That means we're related too-right?? 😁
ReplyDeleteI think we discovered that one time in-person. My mother's lines go way back to England (on paper of course--I have never found the research to discover that).
DeleteI’m doing my own happy dance here because of a find on my husband's line. I’m writing a blog post about the find. I won’t be able to use the family finder on FS though. I don’t have a tree on the site and don’t plan to. But, it sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Celebration Sunday. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing! While you need to be cautious on the FamilySearch tree, it's fun to be able to use it in addition to their fun apps. I keep my research somewhere else! Hope you'll share more happy dance moments in the future!
DeleteHello 7th cousin 1x removed! I hadn't looked at Relative Finder in a while so I popped over when I saw your post. Lo and behold, I *may* have finally found my Mayflower ancestors: John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley! There are about 4 generations between ancestors I've verified and the children of the Howlands, but it looks promising. I might not have to pout at Thanksgiving anymore! :-)
ReplyDeleteHello!!! lol! Very cool! Hope it all works out! Thanks for sharing , cuz!!
