Welcome!
Cheri Hudson Passey has been researching her family and helping others get started with their research since the early 1980s. Born in Camden, South Carolina, her ancestors have been in the state for many generations. She is truly a "Carolina Girl". A love of history and genealogy has grown into a passion for not only for researching name, dates, and places, but for adding flesh on the bones with family pictures, stories, and ephemera.
Cheri is the owner of Carolina Girl Genealogy, LLC. Along with traditional client research, her Genealogy 1-on-1 Research Services include classes that provide individual and group instruction as well as coaching for all levels and needs. She also enjoys speaking and writing about the many aspects of family history and has spoken at local, and state workshops, organizations, and conferences. She will be speaking at RootsTech, a national conference in 2019.
Recently she has been honored to join a team of genealogical researchers for the U.S. Army in their effort to repatriate Soldiers who have been listed as Killed in Action. By using her skills to locate next of kin, it is hoped positive identification through DNA testing will occur when remains are discovered and our war heroes can return home to their families.
Cheri is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, The NextGen Genealogy Network, APG-SL Chapter where she serves as the chapter liaison, The South Carolina Historical Society, The South Carolina Genealogical Society, The North Carolina Genealogical Society, and several South Carolina Genealogy Societies. She currently serves as the Program Chair and is a past President of the Grand Strand Genealogy Club. She also serves as the Treasurer for the Geneabloggers Tribe and serves on committees for the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
Believing strongly in continuing education, she is a graduate of Pro-Gen, the National Genealogy Society American Genealogy, and has attended the Salt Lake Institute for Genealogy where she completed the class "Taking Your Research to the Next Level" and the "Virtual Advanced Methodology Practicum". She attends local and national genealogy conferences as often as possible.
Cheri is also a regular participant in the American Genealogy Study group held live on air twice a month via google hangout with Dear Myrtle.
Her blog, Carolina Girl Genealogy has been instrumental in connecting with and sharing information about her family and the research process.
Cheri Hudson Passey writes the Modus Operandi column for the magazine Going In-Depth from the In-Depth Genealogist and is a twice-monthly contributor to their blog. She also contributes to the World Wide Genealogy Blog as well as writing guest posts and articles for several genealogy blogs and publications.
Cheri is also an instructor with the In-Depth Genealogist Academy and is the host of "GenFriends", a weekly genealogy chat show which can be seen on the In-Depth Genealogist YouTube channel.
