This Week On My Family History Calendar

April 28~
Arthur Wellington Baker (1857-1940), my paternal great great grandfather, was born on this day 164 years ago. He was born in Sumter County, South Carolina, and was the son of Alpheus J. Baker (1824-1917) and Mary Ellen (Jones) Baker (1826-1865).

My maternal great-grandmother, Beulah Mae (Price) Roberts (1897-1980) would have been celebrating her 124th birthday on this day. Beulah was born in Bath, Aiken, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Bertrand Campbell Price (1876-after 1922) and Bessie Mae (Eargle) Price (1878-1943).

April 28~
Gilbert Ernest Roberts, Jr. (1944-1999), my maternal uncle died 22 years ago on this day. He is buried in Quaker Cemetery in Camden, Kershaw, South Carolina.

Interesting how events coincide with one another. Not only did these three happen on one day, but Gil Roberts died on his grandmother Beulah Mae (Price) Robert's birthday.

April 30~
This day is the 272nd birthday of my 5th great grandfather, John Dargan (1749-1817). He was most likely born in Sumter District, South Carolina. John's parents were John Dargan (1726-1766) and Catherine Ann (Singleton) Dargan (1729-abt. 1808).

Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Last week I told you my happy dance was being asked to be a participant in the WikiTree Challenge.
For a week, volunteers from WikiTree work on cleaning up my ancestor's profile pages, look for sources, and try to break through brick walls.  My reveal was live on YouTube this week and they did all that and more! A 100-year-old mystery was solved! A DNA match helped to discover what happened to my missing great great grandfather! Nope, he didn't leave home and never return due to an accident or because he was killed for the money he had with him as family has believed all these years. He moved to Georgia and had another family!!! Wow! I am so grateful for all the volunteers who took the time to work through my tree. I know it was messy, I know there were things I haven't updated. But, that's the story of someone who spends most of their time working on other people's trees.
Thank you WikiTree. Not only have you given me a better-sourced tree, ancestors to get to know, and now a new family to add but you have shown me I need to recommit to researching my own family!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

This week, I have been asked to be the guest genealogist for the WikiTree Challenge!
A team of volunteers will go through my tree that I uploaded several years ago and work through it to make sure sources have been attached, merges completed, and hopefully break down a brick wall or two.  Next week during a WikiTree Livecast, they will present what was accomplished and any records or ancestors found.   Am I doing the Happy Dance? You bet!! Can't wait to see the results!

You can watch by clicking on the link to the video above. Don't forget to subscribe to their channel so you won't miss all the fun as genealogists will be featured all year long!
