Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.
Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Listening to Playback NGS talk about WWI  documents helped me located an index giving me the birth date of my step-grandfather's father. I have been looking for more information on him for years.  I had a possible birth year, but no more.
I still have much more I need to find, but it's a step!
Next, I need to get to a FamilySearch Center to see a photo of the original records.

Incidentally, a couple of months ago, I visited this man's gravesite. I told him that I needed his help to find out more about him.  My son asked me what I was doing. I replied I was asking for help from the other side. He just said" cool mom".  When I let my son know he cheered!

GenFriends: Talking Migration with Miss Peggy

Migration is the topic for this edition of GenFriends.  Peggy Lauritzen, AG, lovingly referred to in the genealogy community as Miss Peggy, joined Cheri and the panel for a fun discussion.
Melissa Barker, Bernice Bennett, Dan Earl, Laura Hedgcock, Shelley Murphy and Mary Kircher Roddy joined in to welcome Miss Peggy and asked their questions and share the stories of their ancestor's migration patterns.

What is important when discovering an ancestor migrated? Asking "WHY".
Watch as Miss Peggy shares the answer to this question and her knowledge of using migration maps, records, and other resources to track your family from place to place.

Another migration story share after the filming:

And, one thing I forgot to mention was in the story of the young men who went to the California gold fields. This would have been in the 1850s. They found a number of African American men who were working to earn the money to buy their family's freedom. They made their money, then went to get their families put together.

We are grateful to Miss Peggy for sharing so much information,  great links, plus her Migration Handout!
