Celebration Sunday~Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.
Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance this week:
Original records are every researcher's preferred source. This week I was able to visit the South Carolina Historical Society Archive in Charleston and hold letters, diaries, land plats and other historical documents in their manuscript collections.
Unfortunately, due to to the social media policy, publishing photos of these materials is not allowed by the archives. Pictures are allowed for personal use.
There's nothing like the touch and smell of old records to make you do the happy dance!

Evalogue.Life Product Review and Give Away!

Telling the stories of our ancestors and of our lives and family is one of the reasons we spend so many hours doing family history research and recording the events of our families.
We all are looking for ways to help us write the stories. For many actually beginning the process of writing and putting our families stories into a form, we can share them with others.

Evalogue.Life is a company that believes in helping you do that. They offer a free storyboard template on their website as well as other products to get you writing.
Rhonda Lauritzen from Evalogue,Life sent me a free package of goodies to review and has offered to send a free package to one of my readers!

What is in the package?
How to Storyboard Combo Pack ($10)

The book explains from beginning to end how to use a storyboard to get your stories written. It's not just for family history. Any type of writing, such as fiction or even memories can benefit from the use of storyboarding. You may have heard of using this tool to help you write, but have not fully understood how. This booklet takes you to step by step through the process. Also included are structural reminders and writing tips. This is a great resource for anyone wanting to take their family history or any other type of writing to the next level!

Two poster-sized Storyboards are included with the book. Sticky notes can be placed in the squares as you write the prompts printed on the board. The board takes you through the setup, the action, and the resolution. Squares in each step help prompt ideas such as "set the scene in mood, space and time", and " then the plan goes awry".

My Life Story-Thoughtful Questions to Tell Your Story of Interview Someone You Love
family gathering pack of 5 booklets ($6)

These booklets contain questions from 7 different topics to help you interview your family members or to pass out and ask them to answer. The topics consist of childhood and hometown memories of military and volunteer service. Working through all 7 with a loved one will trigger memories that will be cherished for generations.

Clipboard ($6), Pen ($2), Sticky Notes ($2), Folder ($2)
Tools are included to help you get started! A clipboard to take notes during your interviews, Sticky notes to work through your storyboard, a pen to write it all down and a folder to keep everything in.

All together it's a $38 (plus shipping) value.

Opening up my package and reading through the materials got me excited about writing my family history. I have had some ideas over the years for sharing the stories in a larger format than short blog posts. Maybe even a historical fiction novel using my ancestors as the characters. It seemed overwhelming and I really didn't know where to start. Have you felt the same? If so, you are going to want to look into these products from Evalogue.Life.

And? You are really going to want to enter my contest to win this amazing package!

How do you enter? It's really very simple!

My Happy Dance this week:
It's wonderful to add branches and leaves to your family tree, but even more so to add new grandchildren! This week my daughter gave birth to identical twins Ada and Eliza.
Both have had to spend some time in the NICU for problems inherent with being premature.
They are doing well and may be coming home very soon!

A truly special happy dance this week!
