Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance! A Visit to The FamilySearch Library and Lunch at Eva's Bakery!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone that you found the document, contacted a cousin with the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This weekly series enables everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

My Happy Dance Moment for the week:

After a wonderful Christmas in Wyoming with my family, I visited the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City.

I did some client work and some of my own research.

Always a Happy Dance Moment!

To make the day even more special, I ate lunch at Eva's Bakery and took a photo outside the Kearns Building. If you are a fan of Nathan Dylan Goodwin's Investigative Genetic Genealogy Mystery Series, you know that the Venator office is in the Kearns Building, and Maddie and the team love going across the street to Eva's!

Share your Happy Dance Moment for the week and let's celebrate together!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

I am late posting about this happy dance moment, but I couldn't let being able to attend and give presentations at the South Carolina Genealogical Society Workshop a couple of weeks ago.

As my friend Mags Gaulden says: In Person is Better!

There's something about gathering with friends and building skills that is so joyous.

I am appreciative of online learning. Being able to attend webinars and institutes I might not have been able to in person is great, but being in person offers so much more!

This workshop is held in the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, so I was also able to get some research in. Again, this year, I was able to go through a box listed as "Miscellaneous".  It's like a box of chocolates; you never know what you are going to find!!

Such a fun way to spend a couple of days!! Happy Dance for sure!

Celebration Sunday-Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

This week was the beginning of the SLIG Fall Virtual Practicum class.
For the next 6 weeks, we will be given a genealogy case to solve.
The purpose is to build our skills using various types of research problems.
The case is presented to us and then we have a week to work on it and see what we can come up with.  We will meet back, hear how the case was solved by the presenter, and then discuss how we tackled it.  Everyone has a different way to research and it is amazing what we can learn from hearing about the research process of the others in the class.
I am so excited about the next 6 weeks and learning as much as I can!

What's your Happy Dance Moment?
Please share and let's celebrate together!

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Relatives at Rootstech for next week's event RootsTech Connect is now up and running!
How do you participate and make family connections?

1-You will need to have a tree on FamilySearch (it's free!)
The data from your tree is where the connections are made!

2-Register for RootsTech Connect. Again, for free!
Once registered, you will be taken to the page to opt-in for "Relatives at RootsTech"

3-Either download the FamilySearch app and click on the  "Relatives at RootsTech"  button at the top or go to the website using this link: http://www.familysearch.org/connect/relatives!

You will get a list of cousin connections and be able to see their connection to you, where they live, and contact information to reach out and share information. Remember, the connections are only as good as the information placed on the trees. False connections may be a result. With thousands of people already registered and the count going up every day, this is a fun way to get in touch with possible relatives around the world!

At the time of creating this post, my connections are 6, 270 from all over the world!
Doing that happy dance as I think about connecting to people from the US and far away places!   Have you registered and opted-in? Maybe we are related!!
