Celebration Sunday~Genealogy Happy Dance!

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.
Share by scrolling
down and adding your story to the comments section or you may also put a link to a blog post telling about what had you dancing this week.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:

Newspapers can shed so much light on our ancestor's lives.
This week, I discovered a story about my paternal 2nd great-grandmother Ellen Caroline (Martin) Early. I already knew she was a tough woman. She fought the courts and her stepchildren for rights to her own property and won after the death of her husband in 1888.  A search of her name in the Statesville, Iredell, North Carolina brought me this gem. Yep, she was a strong lady. Seems she was awarded monies after her son was killed in a train accident, and some of his siblings (the same ones who tried to take her land) took her to court. They felt they were entitled to a portion of the amount awarded to her.  Ellen ended up in jail for "contempt of court" when she said, nope, no way am I giving them anything!  What a woman! She ended up being released after making a deal with the court.

What's your Happy Dance Moment?
Please share and let's celebrate together!

52 Ancestors: So Far Away~In North Carolina

"So Far Away" is the topic for week 6 of the  52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks~2015 Edition.

The majority of my research in the United States is in South Carolina. My ancestors settled there from the earliest days of the State. So, for me, at least for now, my North Carolina Early/Martin famiy is the farthest away for me to research.
My paternal Great Grandmother, Emma Ruth (Baker) Early (1901-1993), of Sumter County, South Carolina, married my paternal Great Grandfather, Jubal Ransom Early (1888-1964) of Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina in 1922.
Jubal was the son of Ransom Taylor Early (1829-1888) and Ellen Caroline (Martin) Early (1850-1926). Both the Early and Martin families were from Statesville, Iredell, North Carolina.
A search on Find a Grave lead me to the burial places of Ransom and Ellen Early, as well as Ellen's parents William A. Martin (1813-1887) and Matilda C. (?) Martin (1812-1876), my paternal 3rd Great Grandparents.
Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery is the final resting place for several members of the Early and Martin families.

Ellen Caroline (Martin)Early is buried in Bethesda Presbyterian Cemetery in an unmarked grave.

Further research indicates that the Martin family came to Iredell County, North Carolina from Rowan County, North Carolina.
A reseach trip needs to be planned. Too far away? Not a chance!
