Celebration Sunday~Genealogy Happy Dance! Christmas Edition

You know the dance. You know you've done it. The one every researcher does after finding something new. The one where you want to jump up and down and shout to everyone around that you found the document, contacted a cousin who has the family Bible, made a DNA connection, or found a whole new branch to your tree. The one that is met with glazed stares and eye rolls.

Celebration Sunday is a place to share your discoveries.
This is a weekly series to enable everyone to tell about their Genealogy Happy Dance moment.

Share by scrolling down and adding your story to the comments section or you may also put a link to a blog post telling about what had you dancing this week.

My Happy Dance Moment for this week:
Getting together with family and friends who live close by and calling those who don't and we couldn't be with or Christmas was wonderful this week.  Whether you were able to safely get together with loved ones or used technology to spend time together,  being with family is always a reason to celebrate.
So, share your favorite part about Christmas 2020 or any holiday you are celebrating at this time of year. Let's celebrate the joy of the season together!

  1. No happy dance this week, but I was happy to read my Great-Grandmother's diary entries about the Exeter Hospital and pass along some pictures to accompany them to the Historical Society for a story.

  2. This month has been hard because two extended family members passed away. I was doing a Google search and hoping to find images of my husband in the local newspaper from his high school football team. I did not find that but I stumbled across a treasure trove for those with Native American family members. The Samuel Proctor Oral History Program at the University of Florida History Program has transcripts of interviews done with members of the Catawba Indian Nation of Rock Hill, S.C. My husband and his family are members of the Catawba Nation. I found transcripts of interviews with my husband, Gary, his parents, sister, two grandmothers, aunts and cousins. I emailed the program director to see of the audio recordings were still available. To my great amazement and joy, Gary's interview was sent to me as an mp3 file. It was so special to me and my family because Gary passed away in January of 2016 and his sister passed away this month. I listened to that interview with two of my children and two grandchildren and it lifted my spirits. Gary sounded like he did when he a vital and healthy man. I plan to request the recordings of all of his other family members. I have already started sharing the transcripts and mp3 file with our extended family as of Sunday. That was the reason for my Genealogy Happy Dance.
