GenFriend panelist Mary Kircher Roddy, CG, explains the process of becoming a Certified Genealogist. Mary explains how she prepared and the steps necessary to put together a Portfolio to be submitted and judged. She answers questions about her journey and gives tips for those who are considering obtaining this credential. Mary suggests applying the rubrics set by BCG as a guide for your research, even if a credential is not something you want to pursue.

  1. This was a really great episode! I learned so much about BCG, and it was comforting to hear that some of the feelings and reservations I have had, about looking into certification, are shared by others in what I consider to be my peer group. I especially share some of the same concerns that Shelley mentioned, and definitely agree with the way Cheri has stated she would do things, if she were to decide to apply.

    1. Thanks, Renate. It can really be intimidating and I think the more we educate ourseves about getting any type of degree or certificcaton the more we will understand what is right for us and be able to confidently move forward. I appreciate your watching and expressing your thoughts.
